THE LUNG CANCER BURDEN
It is estimated that about 238,340 people will be newly diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023, and 127,070 deaths from lung cancer will occur.
For individuals diagnosed with localized lung cancer, the five-year survival rate is 56%. However, once the disease has metastasized, the five-year survival rate is only 5%. This indicates that screening high-risk individuals provides an opportunity to greatly improve lung cancer survival rates by detecting the disease at an earlier stage when it is more likely to be successfully treated.
